THE hunt is on for a woman who allegedly attacked a primary school aged child.

Police are searching for a woman who was allegedly seen hitting a child in the face this weekend.

Officers said the assault involved a young primary school aged child and a woman in her 40s.

The attack described as a slap in the face, happened in Roanhead car park, Barrow, at 3pm, on Saturday.

The ‘abhorrent’ attack has been condemned by Dalton Councillor, Ben Shirley.

He said: “I would absolutely condemn that kind of action.

“Assault of any kind is absolutely abhorrent. But for an adult to strike a minor as has been alleged in this case.

“I would urge anyone might have seen the incident to come forward so those who are involved can be dealt with.

“I would urge anyone against taking such action.

“Especially as the county council have been working to protect our young people.

“This kind of incident is abhorrent and totally unacceptable.

“I just hope the child is OK and thankfully these kind of incidences are few and far between.

“I don’t know the backstory to the incident but no matter the circumstances, this kind of thing is not acceptable.”

Anyone with information about the incident is urged to come forward and contact police. They should call PC 2648 on 101, email 101@cumbria.police.uk.

Alternatively, they can pass on information anonymously by calling Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111, quoting log 112 of 17 August.
