NEW details surrounding an upcoming £800,000 Furness housing development have been revealed.

The latest plans to construct a new-build housing project in Leece have been released after six months of speculation.

Plans to build four modern detached homes in Hard Knotts Lane, Leece were given the green light six months ago, after the site had been left derelict by a rundown village pub.

The pub, the Copper Dog, had closed in mid-2013 after a brief re-opening before interest was shown to develop the site into a housing complex.

South Lakeland District Councillor, Janet Willis, praised the new development for bringing a piece of derelict land back to life.

“The pub hasn’t been used for a long time so it’s good to see a housing development put the space to use,” she said.

“However, it is always nice to have a village pub so its a shame in that sense.

“It’s a sign of the times that the pub was unable to remain open.

“Unfortunately this seems to be a running trend across the country.”

The development will comprise of four homes ranging from two, three and four bedroom specification which will cost between £350,000 and £400,000.

A spokesman for CrowdProperty, a peer-to-peer lender which helped fund the project led by Leece Homes Limited said: “Leece Homes Limited has acted as a principal contractor for a number of years, successfully delivering larger projects of five units.

“CrowdProperty is confident that they will be able to manage the procurement of the build contracts and successfully deliver this project on time and to a high standard."

A completion date for the development has not been revealed at this time.
