THE Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for thunderstorms across Furness and Cumbria.
The Met Office has said that slow-moving thundery showers today may produce some torrential downpours which could cause local flooding and disruption to travel.
Here’s is what the Met Office has said to expect:
- There is a small chance that homes and businesses could be flooded quickly, with damage to some buildings from floodwater or lightning strikes
- Spray and sudden flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures
- There is a slight chance that power cuts could occur and other services to some homes and businesses could be lost
- Where flooding or lightning strikes occur, there is a chance of delays and some cancellations to train and bus services
- There is a small chance of fast flowing or deep floodwater and there is a small chance that some communities become cut off by flooded roads
Cumbria County Council has also warned residents of the risks of flash flooding across the county.
A spokesperson from Cumbria County Council said via social media: “Flash flooding is affecting some of the county's roads today. Please take care, if you're out and about avoid any flood water.”
