A GRANDDAD whose heart stopped in the middle of a bowling match is finally back home in Barrow after spending two weeks in hospital.

Keith Wilson was about to bowl when after walking five steps he fell face forward onto the green 'as if he had been shot'.

His pals Allen Crighton and Eddie Harkins raced over and managed to restart his heart with CPR before the ambulance arrived six minutes later.

Mr Wilson, 77, was transferred from Furness General Hospital to Blackpool Victoria Hospital where he spent two weeks and had a stent fitted in his heart.

Now, finally, he is back at his home in Dundee Street with his wife Willa.

Remarkably he said his brush with death last month wasn't the first time he has survived a potentially fatal heart attack.

"I had a triple bypass last year," he said.

"I'd gone to the hospital with a sore shoulder then they did an ECG and said 'you've had a massive heart attack'."

During his two weeks in Blackpool after his heart attack on July 8 surgeons fitted two stents and an internal defibrillator in Mr Wilson.

Now if he should ever suffer another heart attack the tiny gadget will kick in and restart his heart.

"The bowling club wants to have a defibrillator installed so I've made a £100 donation to get it started," Mr Wilson, a retired electrician, said.

"I can't wait to meet up with Eddie and Allen to thank them for saving my life; it will be very emotional."

His wife Willa said she would be putting her foot down and banning Mr Wilson from playing bowls again.

Mr Wilson responded: "Maybe not this year but perhaps in the future."

His understandable anxiety about the prospect of suffering another attack has left Mr Wilson reluctant to do any physical activity, even cutting his grass, but he has been trying to do plenty of walking to strengthen his heart.

"I'm not allowed to drive until the doctors say I can so I've been walking everywhere," he said.

"I'm just so grateful for everyone who's helped me. It's a miracle."
