A TEENAGER has thanked rescuers after he was involved in a serious biking incident that left him with broken femur.

In the summer of 2017 Max Nisbet, 15 was with his friends cycling in Broughton when he missed a turn and became 'literally wrapped round a tree'.

As a result he was airlifted to Furness General Hospital with a broken femur.

Duddon an Furness Mountain Rescue Team were forced to cut down part of the tree in order to free him.

The incident was described as 'serious' and the team was with him for three hours before he was airlifted.

Two years on Max has made a generous donation of £1,640 to the team to say thank you.

A spokesman from DFMRT said: “The team are always really pleased to see people that we have rescued when they have fully recovered.

“This evening we met with Max who had a nasty mountain biking accident nearly two years ago.

“Max and his family have been busy raising funds for the team through sponsored events, and along with The Joshua West foundation, presented the team with a generous cheque.

“Many thanks for all your efforts, it is really appreciated.”
