THE organisers of Lytham Festival promised us something special for the event’s 10th anniversary year.

And boy did they deliver!

Not only did we have celebs from yonder a year we had legends Kylie and Rod Stewart.

In a record year more music fans than ever before travelled to Lytham from across the north to enjoy the epic five night spectacular.

Kicking the off the musical extravaganza on the main stage were Human League supported by M People’s Heather Small.

After getting off to a false start in a bygone year, Human League finally made it to the stage to be adored by thousands of fans.

Covering all of their biggest chart toppers including ‘Don’t you want me’ they were well received by the appreciative audience who battled the wind and rain to see their set on Lytham Green.

Heather Small also did not disappoint. Her strong and distinctive voice was still as epic as it was 20 years ago.

Thursday night brought rockers Stereophonics to the north.

A younger crowd saw the band perform their collection of chart topping hits including Dakota, Handbags and gladrags and Bartender and the thief.

Fans basked in the evening sun with those unlucky enough not to get tickets lining the roads outside the venue with chairs to listen to their heroes.

Friday night saw more than 20,000 Kylie fans descend onto the green.

Bringing her Glastonbury set to Lytham, fans were treated to amazing costume changes, dance routines and hits spanning her 30 year career.

The Aussie star brought something for everyone.

As well as a sense of fun she brought nostalgia with hits such as ‘Especially for you’, ‘The Locomotion’ and ‘Better the devil you know’.

Despite the event being the busiest one yet the infrastructure also coped well.

Personally I would of liked the toilets to have been a little nearer so we didn’t miss any of the act dashing off.

Supporting the Queen of pop, Sophie Ellis Bextor took to the stage.

The quirky star did a good job of warming up the crowds as the sun set across beauty Lytham.

For those still able to party, Saturday night brought the legend that is Rod Stewart to the North West.

The 70+ rocker showed no signs of slowing down as he powered through as many of his hits as possible in a two hour set.

Dressed in a leopard print blazer, Sir Rod’s voice sounded as good as it did in his heyday.

Fans young and old partied side by side all delighting in the wonderful atmosphere.

As a fan of Lytham Festival and someone who has attended almost every year since it started – I have to say this year was the best ever!

The line up was fabulous and the atmosphere was great.

The only question now is how will organisers Cuffe and Taylor beat this next year?

I for one cannot wait to find out.

Make sure you are part of the fun next year by checking out the line up at www.lythamfestival.com
