FURNESS Coastguard responded to reports of suspected artillery on Walney beach.
Volunteers from Furness Coastguard were called out at 5.30am this morning after a report of suspected ordnance on the beach just south of Thorney Nook.
The team were given a grid reference indicating the approximate location of the object and conducted a thorough search of the area.
After inspecting the object, the team identified the object as an old gas cylinder.
The Coastguard thanked the first informant for reporting this.
If in trouble around the coast, call 999 and ask for the Coastguard.
