A COUPLE who bonded over their love of motocross racing officially tied the knot in an overseas ceremony.

Lisa Brotheridge, 41, and her husband, Gavin Southward, 40, said ‘I do’ in front of 47 of their nearest and dearest among the backdrop of the Cyprus landscape.

The pair chose to wed abroad in the sunshine on May 10 which Mrs Southward described as ‘everything I’d dreamed of and more.’

She said: “We spent ten days out there with family and friends and just had the best time.

“We both wanted a small gathering in the sunshine and decided Cyprus was the perfect place.”

However, the pair wanted to ensure any guests who were unable to attend the ceremony could come to an evening do back home.

Mrs Southward said: “We wanted to do something back in England so more people could make it.

“I put my wedding dress back on and did it all over again.

“The highlight was definitely seeing everyone who hadn’t been able to make the Cyprus wedding.”

The evening ceremony was hosted at the Dunes Hotel in Barrow where guests enjoyed a traditional serving of pie, peas and gravy and a motocross-themed wedding cake.

Mrs Southward said the pair’s shared interest of motorbikes is what first ignited the spark between them.

She said: “We met online and he was exactly what I was looking for: tall, dark and handsome.

“He looked adventurous in the photos and raced motorbikes which definitely attracted me towards him.”

For their first date, the couple travelled halfway between Mr Southward’s home in Askam and Mrs Southward’s home in Lancaster.

She said: “Our first date was at Brewsters just off the motorway which doesn’t seem too romantic.

“But we just bonded straight away.

“We chatted for hours after that and had a few more dates then two years later he proposed.”

Mr Southward popped the question on a hotel balcony in Benidorm.

Mrs Southward said: “I wasn’t expecting it all, it was a very romantic proposal.”

A year later, the couple travelled to Cyprus alongside Mrs Southward’s 11-year-old son Leon, Mr Southward’s twin sons, Oliver and Josh, nine, and their one-year-old daughter together, Amber.

For their first dance, the couple chose the Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper duet Shallow which Mrs Southward said is an important song to her husband.

The pair are hoping to travel to their dream destination of Canada next year for their honeymoon.

Mrs Southward said: “We’ve always wanted to go to Canada so we’re hoping to go some time next year.”
