WORK has started to replace the entire roof of a Barrow school thanks to government funding.
Chetwynde School in Barrow was one of a small number of schools to be successful in its bid for Department for Education funding to replace and repair roof work across the whole site.
The large scale project has a tender value is excess of £660,000 and includes replacing and recovering leaking slate roof sand internal damage to the Grade II listed building.
Chetwynde was one of only 11 schools in the UK to be awarded funding and the only secondary in the local area.
The work is set to continue over the summer holidays and is expected to be completed by the start of the 2019/2020 school year.
