MILLOM Council has revealed the first phase of its plans after the elections.

The ambitious plans to redevelop the surrounding area include establishing a CCTV system for the park, while solving car parking issues and congestion.

Other areas set to be developed is the park along with its pavilion, which the council plan to turn into a functioning café that can act as a centre-point for bowls, tennis and other social activities.

Cllr Bob Kelly said: “There are many challenges facing the newly-elected Millom Town Council, of which only four are experienced councillors.

“We had only nine candidates for fifteen council seats in Millom and Haverigg.

"This gives us the opportunity to recruit people with knowledge and skills, who would not normally stand for election or accept a party label, and so we are hoping to co-opt six members to the council with skills.”
