The M6 northbound carriageway remains closed following a collision between junctions 40 and 41 this morning.
One man has been taken to James Cook by air ambulance with serious head injuries.
Police have confirmed it is unclear at this time how long this the northbound will remain closed.
Police have advised motorists should take this into account when planning journeys.
Police were called to report to the scene at 7.50am following a collision involving two vehicles.
People stuck in traffic on the M6 are asked to remain inside their vehicle and not to walk onto the carriageway, unless there is an emergency.
Anyone who is experiencing any medical difficulty/emergency should contact the emergency services for help.
