AS the first History Detective meeting got into full swing, the young sleuths were kind enough to share what they had learnt from Mrs Jepson’s slideshow as well as what they expect to learn from the project as a whole.

Oscar from Barrow Island Community Primary School said: “I think going on the trips in a bus sounds really fun.

“I’d like to learn about dinosaurs instead, but I am looking forward to knowing more about my town."

Kayleigh, also from Barrow Island Community Primary School, spoke about why she loves living in Barrow, which is her reason to learn more.

She said: “I moved from Johannesburg, South Africa, when I was four - and my mum always tells me how nicer it is to live here.

“There’s more crime in South Africa apparently and I like Barrow, so I want to learn about its Victorian past.”

Tavis, of South Walney Junior School, gave an interesting insight into the monarch who ruled for 63 years, along with a particular part of the project he is excited to delve into.

He said: "Queen Victoria only wore black after her husband died, who was also her cousin.

"I want to know more about BAE Systems and how that business started."

Inspiring Barrow is funded by Cumbria Community Foundation and the National Lottery.
