HUNDREDS of children took to Barrow Park to search for Easter eggs in an event to raise money and awareness of mental health.

Organised by Kick Off 4 Mental Health, the egg hunt saw children scour a course in the park hoping to snag their own chocolatey delights.

More than 300 children took part in the event in its third year, a record turnout which saw organisers forced to draft in more than 100 extra eggs.

Egg hunters traversed a half a mile-long course to collect nine eggs spelling out the word "chocolate".

Once they had the full set they could line up for the real thing.

Dan Webber, founder of Kick Off 4, said he was delighted at how the egg hunt went.

He said: "It's the first year it hasn't rained, which is always a bonus.

"We had to go and find 150 more because of how many people turned up.

"It was a brilliant atmosphere and it was great to hear people talking about mental health.

"With it being a free event, the whole purpose was to give back to the community.

"It was absolutely brilliant.

"People we talked knew about what we were doing with linking mental and physical health.

"The whole atmosphere was positive, everyone was happy and the children had a great time."

DW Fitness First also came along to the hunt.

The event is another in Mr Webber's year of charity events.

A prolific fundraiser, Mr Webber has previously turned his attention to raising money for dementia.

Now he is spending 2018 raising money for mental health charity Mind in Furness.

So far this year, he has held a charity bake off and a music-themed run. The football tournament Kick Off 4 Mental Health, takes place on May 25.
