THE latest Bouquet of the Week has seen a grateful gran pay tribute to a team of grandchildren and great-grandchildren who joined forces to renovate her garden.

Maureen Roberts, 74, saw an army of family members give her Walney garden a much-needed facelift.

Previously it lay messy and unloved following Maureen’s stroke last year.

The family team, from age nine to 40, met and devised a plan for the garden, with everyone chipping in.

Family member Mandy Royal explained why they did it.

She said: “She never lets us come round and do things for her.

“She is such a loveable and wonderful woman so we all wanted to come to her house and help her out.

“There were so many of us who came together for a meeting before to decide what to do and everyone did their own little bit.”

Jay Roberts, Maureen’s grandson, joined her at her home in Orion Terrace to receive the flowers on behalf of the family.

Many of them live further afield and made a special effort to gather together in Walney to work on the garden.

Maureen cried as she explained how grateful she was to her family for the gesture.

She said: “I am so proud and overwhelmed of my family and what they did.

“They came over and told me to stay in the kitchen and made me a cup of tea.

“Then when they were finished they told me to come outside - and I saw what they did.”

The family had cleared items from the lawn and replaced the fence, giving Maureen’s garden a new lease of life.

She added: “I am so grateful to them and I want to say a big thank you.

“I always say my front door is wider than it is tall to fit my head through.

“My family make me have such a big head because I am so proud of them.”

In total Maureen has 14 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

Maureen paid tribute to a long list of family members who helped. These were: Mandy, Sharon, Dougie Jason, Missy, Billy, Harry, Rogan, Kenzie, Colin, Lily and Martha.
