AN OFFICIAL request has been put forward to install new bus shelters across a town.

Ulverston Town Council has submitted an application for two new bus shelters to be built on major town roads.

The proposed positions of the shelters include: Cavendish Street on County Square and Priory Road.

Councillors explained the need for a shelter arose from passengers being forced to stand in adjacent doorways in adverse weather conditions.

The most appropriate site for the shelters were discussed, deciding on the side of the ‘Old Library’ building and Elmhurst Care Home on Priory Road.

The decision to install the shelters are to be agreed by Transport Services in the coming weeks.

Ulverston town councillor Mark Wilson said: “There will be some element of consultation and planning but the award of such a fund is good news. Myself and David Webster attended the site visits and look forward to the next stage of implementation."
