MOTHERS were celebrated at a special lunch at a primary school yesterday.
Hundreds of children and their mums came together for a Mother's Day meal at Dalton St Mary's C of E Primary School.
Catering staff were put to the test as they served up a roast chicken dinner and a cup cake pudding to 140 pupils and 200 mums.
The mothers sat down for the meal before being joined by their children, who brought them cards and gifts.
Lynda Woodburn, the school's headteacher, said children thoroughly enjoyed the day.
She said: "We just like to celebrate and appreciate our mums in school.
"That can also mean somebody who is like a mum such as grandparents or nannies.
"The children always love to make their mum a card.
"They loved seeing their mums at lunchtime.
"It is really well received and such a nice thing to see.
Mrs Woodburn also made special mention of the catering staff.
"The catering team had a lot to do and they did extremely well.
"All the work they do is absolutely brilliant."
But the school is not neglecting the dads.
In time for Father's Day, the school will be welcoming dads for an outdoor barbecue and football.
Mother's Day takes place next Sunday on March 31.
