A COUPLE are well and truly steering in the right direction after a ship's captain tied the knot with his loving bride.

Captain David Wodlen, 31, and homemaker Kerry Parmer, 34, were married among 60 of their closest family and friends.

The couple met in September 2017 after first talking over dating app Tinder.

They are both now happily settled in Barrow and David, who is originally from Sweden, captains a ship for Ørsted at the offshore wind farm off Walney’s coast.

Kerry described how they both ‘felt complete’ in the early days of meeting and how they were both ready for a relationship.

“We would both say that we met in the prime of our lives and I was just ready for some company”, she said.

“I was a single mother of two boys and I finally realised that you’ve got to love yourself before anyone else could love you and so I deliberately put on my Tinder profile that I was a mother-of-two and David just accepted me for everything I am."

Kerry is the mother of two boys from previous relationships - six-year-old Oliver and three-year-old Ruben.

Soon after they had their first date on Biggar Bank beach in front of a beautiful sunset.

Kerry said both felt nervous but after they touched hands she felt what she described as ‘electric chemistry’ - and they both knew then and there that they were the ones for each other.

They realised they wanted to get married after a touching conversation when David said: “Where did you come from?” to which Kerry replied “can I keep you?”

They got engaged on January 25 2018 after they had just walked their dogs. When they got in the house David made Kerry a cup of tea and he pulled what Kerry thought was honey from the cupboard, but it turned out to be a wedding ring.

Kerry jumped repeatedly up and down in excitement and after being slightly nervous that her wedding ring would not fit she said: “It fit like a glove”.

The couple got married at a ceremony at St George’s Church in Barrow and a reception at the Abbey House Hotel and Gardens.

Kerry described how they ‘turned the traditional wedding format on its head’ choosing not to have speeches, a first dance or a formal sit-down meal.

They did as the felt such things made the day feel ‘too formal’. In response their 60 guests all enjoyed an amazing day that Kerry described as ‘beautiful’.

She also had her ‘dream dress’ on from Eternity By Nina on Rawlinson Street.

The couple then enjoyed a romantic seven-day break to Greece and are looking forward to the rest of their lives together.

The couple would like to thank everyone who made their day so special. They would also like to offer particular thanks to Kerry's mother who sadly passed away a few years ago and to her father who has supported Kerry over the years. They would also like to thank David's parents for their support. Lastly, they would like to thank their photographer Ashton Bowron for her 'dedication' and 'beautiful images'.
