AMBLESIDE may well have its own ‘Parkrun’ soon by becoming part of the global network of free 5k runs for all ages and abilities held every Saturday morning at 9am.

There are plans for possibly two new parkruns for the Ambleside area, but ambassadors of an Ambleside Parkrun say that nothing will happen without a volunteer team, and they are keen to meet anyone who would like to be involved.

Being a parkrun volunteer won’t take a lot of their time, ambassadors say, and it doesn’t mean that volunteers themselves never get to run. Their responsibilities will involve some background admin, plus course setting-up, timing and barcode duties, but the more volunteers that Ambleside Parkrun gets, the more everyone gets their chance to run as well.

Parkrun ambassadors are hosting a meeting at the Golden Rule, Ambleside, on March 20 (7pm) but for anyone unable to make it and who wants to be part of the team, please email sarah.hamilton@parkrun.com.

Everyone is welcome - runners, walkers, people who want to be part of a fun and lively community event, youngsters, and retired runners. Enthusiast Sarah Hamilton said there were potentially two routes for the Ambleside area, but it was now up to the community to come forward and volunteer.
