A STREET was cordoned off after a gas leak.
Police and fire crew were called to Westmorland Street in Barrow on Friday evening after a gas pipe beneath the street ruptured.
One fire engine from Ulverston attended the scene just before 8pm.
Police said they cordoned off the road shortly after and evacuated nearby premises.
Firefighters used environmental equipment to stop the gas leak.
Crews were at the scene for an hour and 10 minutes before handing over to gas engineers.
