HINDPOOL Tiger’s first wrestling charity event was described as a ‘brilliant success’ by event organisers.

Barrow’s Cloud Nine and The Lounge hosted the knockout professional wrestling match on Sunday afternoon, with all proceeds going towards the running of Hindpool Tigers’ junior rugby team.

The event, which was attended by 200 eager fans of all age ranges, raised £724 for the rugby league club, helping fund new rugby equipment and a team trip to The Rhinos Challenge later this year.

Club chairman, Graham Shaw said: “It was an absolutely brilliant night. We thought we would try something different as a club, we want to be known as more than just playing rugby and it was a fantastic success.

“All the team seemed to really enjoy it which is the main thing.

Cloud Nine owner Simon Crompton said: “It’s so important the community gets involved in fundraisers like this to help worthy causes.

"The venue hosts more than 14 charity events per year, having raised more than £10,000 for local charities and causes since its fruition."

Mr Shaw said: “We’re planning on having another one next year hopefully but we have other upcoming things planned throughout the year too.”

The club is hosting a charity rugby match later this year, with all proceeds going towards adapting a school bus into a disabled-friendly vehicle.
