STUDENTS from a school on Walney have seen off thousands of other young writers to become published after taking part in a national competition.
Four girls from Walney School have been chosen out of over 8,000 entries to be published and included in print after taking part in the Young Writers ‘Poetry Escape’ challenge.
Maddison Lowden, Phoebe Lovidge, Teegan Nicholson and Sophie Kendall were all chosen for their excellent poetic skills in a challenge inspired the competitions 'poetry maze'. This saw students following different pathways, each with its own theme or writing constraint challenging their imaginations and embracing their creativity.
Miss Lucy Jagger, English Teacher at Walney School said: ""We enter writing competitions as a way of challenging ourselves and the Young Writers ‘Poetry Escape’ challenge was perfect for this as many of the students hadn’t attempted poetry before.
"I was thrilled when I got the letter through saying that four of the girls were selected to be published.
They were all overjoyed and so proud of what they had accomplished and I am incredibly honoured to work with such dedicated and creative individuals.
Teegan said: "To have my poem selected and published is an amazing feeling that almost had me in tears. Knowing that the poem they had chosen is one about my sister is a feeling and an accomplishment that I adore."
Maddison said: ‘I enjoy creative writing because I can express my humour through writing. I am very excited about being published.’
