A school has raised more than £1,000 for charity.

The music department, with the support of the 6th form students at Millom School have raised £1,629.50 for the Motor Neurone Disease Association (MNDA).

Pupils presented the cheque to the charity at the school on Thursday January 17.

The students took part in various fundraising activities, these included a Christmas jumper day over the festive period in 2018, the sixth form hosted a fun day of activities such as limbo, penalty shoot-out, bake sales, photo booth and face painting.

The school also held a Christmas concert where attendees were treated to performances from the brass band, a number of soloists, ensembles and the rock groups.

A spokeswoman from Millom School said: “We would like to thank the members of the community and local businesses who kindly donated raffle prizes and all of those people who supported our events.”

Motor neurone disease is an is uncommon condition which affects somebodies brain and nerves.

Over time, the disease gets gradually worse, moving around, swallowing and breathing get increasingly difficult and the condition is eventually fatal.

The money raised has gone to the MNDA and will support local families living with the disease and also fund national research.
