A LEADING Barrow Labour councillor has issued a rallying cry for the community to do everything it can to save the town’s Marks & Spencer store from closure.

M&S bosses announced on Tuesday that the Dalton Road outlet is earmarked for the chop – putting 57 jobs at risk.

Cllr Anne Burns said: “We want to keep our Marks & Spencer open and I feel sure that many members of our community want to make their voices heard.

“The Dalton Road store has for decades been part of the fabric of our town centre and the hard-working staff must be reeling after being told of plans to shut it down.

“We can and should say something about this announcement. So I am urging everyone who wants to protest to get involved.”
