A HEADTEACHER has said it is becoming difficult for schools to meet the increasing standards with less and less support.

Nicky Brewerton, headteacher at Ramsden Infant and Nursery School in Barrow reacted to an Ofsted report which was released following an inspection in December 2018.

The report stated Ramsden school required improvement across a number of areas.

these included: Effectiveness of leadership and management, personal development, behaviour and welfare.

Whilst the inspectors did highlight a need to improve, they also identified key strengths at Ramsden, such as the above average proportion of pupils reaching the expected standards and higher in maths, as well as the happy, caring and safe environment fostered there for pupils

Mrs Brewerton said: "We're of course disappointed with the report.

"We're happy to see the inspector did recognise the happy and friendly environment we have created for our pupils.

"This is something which has been supported by parent feedback who have been almost unanimous in this view.

"It feels like schools are being asked to do more and more these days with less and less.

"Ofsted continue to raise the bar for schools across the country.

"Whilst they focus on statistics, we like to view our little ones as individuals.

"They've made such good progress this year and we're so proud of them for what they have achieved.

"I don't feel feel like this is always recognised.

"Regarding the improvements, some have already been made and the rest are in hand."

Anne Burns, Barrow Borough Councillor for the Hindpool ward, said: "I'm surprised as Ramsden have always received excellent reports.

"I know the head and staff at the school will work their socks of to pull the school back up to a high level.

"I will give the school all the support I can, because I know they all work incredibly hard to make the children's education the best it can be."
