A MOTORIST was caught behind the wheel while almost three times the legal alcohol limit after a night out in Barrow.
Owen James Keighley had been on a works do on the night of December 14.
The 21-year-old, who now lives in Ainslie Street, Ulverston, had been due to stop at the Travelodge in Barrow but decided to drive towards Preston in the early hours of the following morning.
Keighley, who works at The Mail, was seen in his car by a police officer on patrol at Newby Bridge petrol station who found him to be over the limit.
He later provided a breath sample which revealed he had 84 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35mcgs.
At South Cumbria Magistrates’ Court yesterday Keighley pleaded guilty to drink driving.
He was given a 22-month ban, fined £250 and ordered to pay £85 costs and a £30 surcharge.
