RESIDENTS will get the chance to quiz an MP over Brexit in a special live session hosted by The Mail tomorrow.

John Woodcock, the Barrow and Furness MP, is asking Facebook users to put their views on the divisive subject to him as he prepares for a crunch vote on Tuesday.

During a special live session hosted by The Mail at 1pm, Mr Woodcock will respond to his constituents’ views on how he should vote on the Prime Minister’s European Union withdrawal deal.

The Facebook Live event comes after Mr Woodcock held a fiery Talk to Your MP drop-in session on the issue at Barrow Tesco on Thursday. The MP also attended a special county-wide Brexit meeting yesterday where representatives gave presentations on how key local sectors stand to be affected by any deal.

Penrith and the Borders MP Rory Stewart and Carlisle MP John Stevenson also attended the meeting of the Cumbria Leadership Board.

Mr Woodcock said: “Next week all MPs have a responsibility to weigh up all the evidence and listen carefully to local views before deciding whether or not to endorse the withdrawal agreement the prime minister has reached with the EU.

“I am not happy with the proposals but I’m weighing it up against the likelihood that we could end up crashing out of the EU without any kind of deal, which would be chaotic and deeply damaging across a whole host of areas, potentially for many years.

“I always want to hear from constituents on key issues and would particularly welcome people taking part in this special session.

“There was lots of passion and disagreement at the meeting I hosted on Thursday and I welcome that - this is so important for the future of our area and the nation.”

This week Mr Woodcock voted with the government on one of the votes in which they were defeated.

"I did not oppose the opposition’s motion on contempt once the government’s amendment to it had been defeated," he said.

"And I voted in favour, along with the rest of the opposition, on Conservative backbencher Dominic Grieve’s amendment to give parliament more control in the event of no deal."
