A SOUTH Lakes restaurant has been named in the top 5 restaurants in the country.

Today TripAdvisor announced the Travellers’ Choice Awards for Restaurants.

L’Enclume in Cartmel has been named fourth best in the UK fine dining restaurants rankings.

The restaurant owned by British chef Simon Rogan has also been named the 16th in Europe.

This year marks the fourth year in a row L’Enclume has featured in the UK top ten, climbing up two places from sixth in 2017.

Rachel Tyson, Head of Marketing and Sales at Cumbria Tourism praised L’Enclume for this latest achievement and said the restaurant is as an example of the high quality food available in Cumbria.

She said: “From exquisite fine dining restaurants like L’Enclume to award-winning pubs and a host of local delicacies, Cumbria is one of the most creative and successful foodie destinations around.

“It’s great to see one of our finest restaurants named on this list of Europe’s best, and showcasing some mouth-watering menus in a world-class landscape.”

L’Enclume opened in 2002 and has become renowned for its innovative and unique dishes.

The restaurant has won two Michelin stars as well as various of awards including being recognised as the ‘best restaurant in the UK’ for four consecutive years by the esteemed Good Food Guide.

In 2009 Simon Rogan set up a farm which allowed him to produce quality local ingredients to be served at L’Enclume.

He has also expanded L’Enclume to include a shop selling locally grown produce and 16 bedrooms located around Cartmel where diners can stay and explore the surrounding area.

For diners hoping for more detailed insight in to what goes on behind the scenes of the Michelin Star restaurant, the Aulis at L'Enclume gives people the chance to watch the chef at work and try new dishes before they go on to the menu at L'Enclume.

Simon Rogan also opened Rogan & Co in Cartmel, the restaurant won its first Michelin star in October 2018, under the leadership of head chef Tom Barnes.
