LOCAL businesses will be going the extra mile to raise money for St Mary’s Hospice as it marks its 30th anniversary.

The Ulverston centre needs £3.2million to keep its doors open, and south Cumbrian businesses are pitching in.

Storrs Hall are going to ask their customers to make a voluntary contribution to the hospice when they check out and when they make a booking online throughout 2019.

Pastures Pantry Café in Barrow are encouraging their customers to put 30p into a collection tin at the counter.

Haddow Stoves are asking their customers to voluntarily add on an extra £30 to St Mary’s Hospice when they have an instillation.

Pennington’s Tea and Coffee Ltd have made St Mary’s Hospice their charity of the year for 2019 and are donating a percentage of sales from their most popular half blend coffee.

Area fundraiser Charlotte Windle: “We are lucky enough to have lots of support from local businesses, the community is the life blood of the hospice.

“For our 30th anniversary we want to increase our numbers of supports as we prepare for an increased demand on our services.

“Whether it is an extra 30p or £3 onto the bill, proceeds from a certain product or 30 days of tips, throughout 2019 we would like our business supporters to be creative and have fun whilst raising much needed funds.”

“At a time when so many can feel lost, it is vital that a friendly face who cares and understands can enter into your life, give support, give courage and most importantly treat you as an individual and not an illness."
