CASES involving more than 700 Barrow residents accused of failing to pay council tax are due to be heard in court.
Barrow Borough Council is set to present a total of 722 cases of failing to pay council tax at South Cumbria Magistrates' Court on Monday.
The authority will also detail alleged offences against 14 businesses accused of failing to pay non-domestic rates.
A council can ask a magistrate for a liability order, a legal demand for payment, if they are owed council tax and efforts to encourage payment have failed.
The council’s legal costs may be added to the amount owed.
Residents and business owners are permitted to attend the hearing to give their reasons for failing to pay which can then be taken into account by the magistrates.
