A MUM has set up a fundraising page to raise money for a school that was forced to close due to sewage flooding the building.

Ramsden Infant and Nursery School, based on Thwaite Street, in Barrow, fell victim to flooding after drains were blocked by wet wipes flushed down the toilet at a nearby house.

The school had to close for several days because the smell was 'unbearable' and now faces repair costs of over £5,000.

Sarah Snow, whose son went to Ramsden Infant and Nursery School, wants to help out as much as she can.

She has set up a GoFundMe page to raise cash for the school to replace vital essentials.

Books, furniture, pens and other stationary were lost in the aftermath.

She said: “I want to get some money for them to replace the little things that the insurance will not cover.

“I have set up a fundraising page but it has not received much support.

“So I want to raise awareness because it is a brilliant school which has been badly damaged.”

She said she has set a target of £500 but added 'raising as much as possible will make a big difference.'

“They don’t get enough credit for what they do and I just want to help them out as much as I can," she said.

Nicky Brewerton, Headteacher at Ramsden School, said she appreciated all the support they receive.

She said: “People have flushed wet wipes down the toilet in nearby houses, causing the drains to come up outside the school.

“The school has been shut for several days because the smell has been unbearable and the damage has been substantial.

“We have had to replace the carpet, most of the furniture and a lot of stationary.

She added: “The cost for everything will be in the region of £5,000, but that could rise.

“All the support we have received is highly appreciated, and I thank Sarah for setting up the GoFundMe page.

“If people can help us out then that would be brilliant.”
