FURNESS Rotary Club were at a Barrow school on Friday to receive from students.

Y6 students at Dane Ghyll primary presented the cheque to members of the Rotary Club after members of the club helped to cut back trees and grass on the school grounds.

Dane Ghyll is known for it's award winning wildlife area as well as a garden where it produces it's own produce.

To help raise money, children at the primary school set up stalls to sell vegetables from the garden to parents.

All the money raised is going towards buying aquaboxes, a box that helps convert dirty water into drinking water.

Colin Scraggs, a member of the Furness Rotary Club said: "It was very nice to recieve the cheque as it's usually the other way round.

"I know that each year of the school grows different vegetables, so there was a carrots, runner beans and all sorts being sold by the school.

"I'd like to thank the children at the school and the head for their generous donation."

Louise Postlethwaite, a volunteer at the school garden said: "Instead of holding a bake sale or something like that to raise the money we decided to do something a little different.

"So we harvested the vegetables from the garden and held an open evening for the parents to come and buy some of the vegetables.

"The parents who came to the event gave us some really positive feedback.

"One of the girls from the year six class actually wrote a letter to invite members of the Rotary Club to the school so that they could present the cheque in person."
