PROSECUTORS are set to drop the case against a paedophile charged with breaching an order.

Colin Jones, 44, of Steel Street, Askam, had been due to stand trial at Preston Crown Court on March 18 accused of possessing an iPod on September 26.

In August Jones was given a 12-month jail term suspended for two years after he pleaded guilty to inciting a 13-year-old girl to engage in sexual activity; attempting to communicate with a 13-year-old girl for purposes of sexual gratification; and attempting to cause a child aged 13 to look at an image of a person engaging in sexual activity.

He was also ordered to complete a rehabilitation programme and was given a 10-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order.

He has been remanded in custody since his first appearance after being charged with breaching the terms of a Sexual Harm Prevention Order imposed in August by allegedly being in possession of an iPod on September 26.

At a hearing scheduled for tomorrow (Thursday) the Crown Prosecution Service is set to offer no evidence.
