AN alleged burglar has appeared in court accused of attacking a dad and his son after they reportedly caught him in their home.

Daniel Carl Green, of Longway in Barrow, was arrested following an alleged burglary at a family’s home in the Hawcoat area of Barrow.

South Cumbria Magistrates’ Court heard yesterday how the alleged victim found Green in his bungalow in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Green is then alleged to have bitten both the homeowner and his son, on the hand and arm, when they attempted to restrain him.

These allegations form the basis of the offences of assault occasioning actual bodily harm and assault occasioning grievous bodily harm.

The 32-year-old defendant, who appeared at the Abbey Road court from custody, did not enter a plea and the case was automatically sent to the crown court because of the severity of the burglary offence.

Green, formerly of Hartington Street in Dalton, had instructed his solicitor, Trystan Roberts of Poole Townsend, to make a bail application but this was refused by the magistrates.

Green appeared in the dock wearing camouflage trousers and an Adidas T-shirt. He also appeared to have a black eye and an injury to his jaw.

Peter Bardsley from the Crown Prosecution Service told the court the alleged burglary offence happened at around 5.30am on Saturday morning some three miles away from Green’s home address.

The court also heard Green is due to get married at Abbey House Hotel in Barrow on December 20. His solicitor added that his girlfriend, a mum-of-three, is also pregnant.

Green, who is employed, was remanded in custody until November 30 when he will appear at Preston Crown Court to formally enter a plea.
