2018 has been another successful year for The Mail’s Big Clean campaign.

Litter pickers young and old have proved they have pride in their towns and villages by helping to rid the streets, community and beaches of unwanted mess.

Backed by sponsors Kimberly-Clark and Sprint Energy, The Mail has encouraged schools, individuals, community groups and businesses to come together to improve the environment in which we live, work and play across Barrow Ulverston and Millom.

And what an achievement this has been. The beaches have seen regular litter picks, grot spot areas have been tackled and more people than ever have shown their support.

Vanessa Sims, The Mail editor, said: “Big Clean is such an important campaign as it helps to improve the environment and renew our pride in the community in where we live.

“Here at The Mail, we are always looking to champion our towns and villages and the fantastic people in them, many of whom have supported the Big Clean year after year.

“We’ve heard some great stories about tireless efforts to keep our corner of Cumbria clean.

“Most of the litter we collected could have been easily recycled or thrown into bins nearby, so we hope the Big Clean message will inspire people to take greater care of their area. A big thank you to every person who pledged their support.”
