HUNDREDS of visitors flocked to Barrow's newest bar as it officially opened at the weekend.

Tailors opened its doors to cocktail-loving crowds on Friday night. The new venture is the latest to open in Barrow town centre following the opening of the Odd Frog earlier this year.

Based in the former Greenwoods store in Dalton Road, after months of extensive and upmarket refurbishment, Tailors is the culmination of the hard work of two local families.

The bar boasts swanky furnishings and a choice of seating areas in a modern but cosy setting softly-lit by striking light fittings.

Plans for the new venue were unveiled in January when the Baines and Harris families lodged an application to convert the former men's clothing store into a trendy bar.

The registered company behind the venture, Harrbains, is run by eight directors: Chelsea Wade, Colin Patrick, Wendy Harris, Peter Harris, Jack Harris, Emily Baines, Sandra Baines, and Daniel Baines.

Visitors to the opening night have left glowing reviews on the venue's Facebook page.

Deborah Wilson wrote: "Looking forward to our next visit. Stunning decor and lovely atmosphere."

Wendy Sloan added: "Amazing place, nice and relaxing."

The bar's website describes it as providing "a ‘city centre’ experience within Barrow town centre... Offering a welcoming environment, wide range of drinks and light bites".

As well as cocktails, wine, spirits, hot drinks and traditional draught beers and ales, Tailors also boasts a selection of cutting boards to snack on.

Visitors can choose from four options which include tasty bites of Italian ham, crusty chilli bread, olives, pate, sour dough bread, black pudding, open topped pork pie and a variety of cheeses such as creamy Lancashire, Wensleydale and Stilton.

The bar's bosses revealed the food is not yet available but were delighted to be able to open on time.

They said in a post on the bar's Facebook page: "After a little bit of blood, a lot of sweat and a fair few tears, we've made it."
