DRIVERS are being urged to take extra care on the roads this weekend as flood and surface water builds across South Cumbria.

Cumbria Police has issued the warning as parts of Barrow, Ulverston Millom and the surround road network was submerged under water.

Vehicles have been abandoned in flood water along t he A590 and A591.

Cumbria County Council highways staff are said to be out in force across the county helping to unblock drains to allow rain water to flow.

Storm Callum's arrival caused severe traffic disruption acros the county with some roads becoming cut off.

Bus were delayed and cancelled, vehicles were abandoned and backlogs were witnessed.

Cumbria Police warned drivers to avoid the A590 roundabout in Park Road, near the turn off to Roanhead.

The flood water has covered the road since around 10am.

There are also reports of flooding in Barrow where Dalton Lane meets Abbey Road.

Forecasts says heavy rain is to persist throughout the day.

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning, telling people to expect disruption, possible flooding and power cuts.

- Police say traffic on Park Road is now flowing smoothly

- There is still slow traffic due to flooding both ways between Glenridding Drive and Abbey Road in Barrow.

- The A591 at Grasmere is closed in both directions due to flooding. Traffic is moving slowly

- Stagecoach have cancelled several buses

-  The operator says the X6 service between Barrow and Kendal is unable to operate via Lyngarth due to flooding on Windermere Road in Grange
