A HONEYMOON in the Dominican Republic followed the marriage of Jennie and Matt Hargreaves.

Hairdresser Jennie, 29, (nee Hayes) and occupation project leader at BAE Systems Matt, 32, rekindled their friendship through social media and they entered into a relationship.

Matt had planned to pop the question on their first family holiday to Greece in September 2016 but he couldn’t wait. As they were living at Jennie’s parents, he told her to go downstairs and gave her a card which said “Marry me?” and presented her with a ring.

The blushing bride enjoyed a hen celebration with her close friends and family at the Banerigg cottage in Windermere followed by a spa day and meal and drinks. The groom went to Benidorm with his mates.

The venue for the wedding was St. George’s church in Barrow followed by a reception at Dunes Hotel, also in Barrow, where some 65 guests enjoyed a champagne reception and a fabulous meal.

The theme for the wedding was blush pink and gold rustic with lots of greenery. The bride’s outfit came from Marri Me of Kendal and the designer was Provonias. She wore a short veil was and classic plains, also from Marri Me. The shoes were Jennie’s own and earrings were a gift from her dad Ray.

The bridal party all had their hair and make-up done by Sarah Gilbert and Emma Fleming. The four bridesmaids were Rosie Cairns, Katie Low, Gemma Anderson and Fern Hayes. The two flower girls were Matt’s daughter Sophie Hargreaves and Matt and Jennie’s niece who was born just three days before the wedding. As for the groomsmen, the best man was Daniel Hayes, Jennie’s brother, followed by Matt’s two best friends Dan Griffiths and Chris Benson. Page boy was the couple’s son Alfie-Ray Hargreaves.

Bridesmaids travelled to the church in a blue VW camper van provided by Steve McSkimmings and Jennie and Matt travelled in a beautiful Bentley supplied by Malcom Embreus, a family friend.

At the reception, the blush and gold coloured name cards were created by Jennie’s mum Lynn and there were flowers for each table with gold candelabras and lots of trailing green ivy. For the favours, children tucked into miniature jars of Haribo sweets, the men had Matt’s favourite choice of drink Jägermeister, brandy and vodka and the ladies received small jars of rhubarb and custard sweets.

Around 150 people were at the reception to enjoy bacon butties and a slice of wedding cake, a rustic and vintage naked cake made by Jus Bakes with random flower posies. The first dance came from The Greatest Showman. The couple said a huge thank to Jennie’s parents, Lynn and Ray Hayes, for working so hard to make the day possible.
