COMPANIES working on the clean-up of Sellafield have been rewarded for their safety record.
Sellafield Ltd won nine awards from the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents, with contracting companies also sweeping the board.
Two special medals honoured the work of those in the Pile Fuel Storage Pond and projects department, for five years of consecutive gold awards. The awards recognising safety performance in 2017/18, went to the Magnox storage pond; the pile fuel cladding silo; spent fuel management; environment, health, safety and quality; remediation; pile fuel storage pond and the Projects Delivery Directorate who all received gold. Silver went to the Magnox swarf storage silo and Sellafield's Warrington offices.
Among the winning contractors were Balfour Beatty Kilpatrick, Hertel UK Ltd, National Nuclear Laboratory, PPS Electrical, Shepley Engineers, OneFM and Jacobs Field Services.
