CELEBRATIONS took over a popular girls group when they scooped a unique award recognising their achievements.

Hawkshead Guide Unit won a Bronze Arts Award at an event held at Girlguiding North West England's headquarters.

The girls, aged between 10 and 14, were presented with a special badge which honoured their commitment to the arts.

The award scheme has been specially created by Girlguiding North West England Curious Minds and the Windermere troop were the first to be presented.

Annie May Hodgson, 11, from First Hawkshead Guide Unit said: "I really enjoyed completing the Arts Award, it was a lot of fun.

"My favourite part was visiting a Rainbow group and teaching them a dance."

Julie Bell, Region Chief Commissioner said: "I’m so proud of all the girls who have undertaken the award; it was great to see how many different galleries and organisation’s they connected with to complete it."
