WITNESSES are being sought after a five-car crash closed part of the A590 for six hours.

Police were called at 5.19pm yesterday to reports of a 5 vehicle collision on the A590 Kendal bypass.

The collision involved a Renault Clio, Kia Rio, Citroen C4, Ford Fiesta and Ibiza Sport.

The front seat passenger of the Fiesta was struck by one of the other vehicles after he exited the Fiesta. The 86-year-old pedestrian suffered serious injuries and was taken to the Royal Preston Hospital.

The driver and passenger of the Clio, a male and female in their 80s, from Grange, were taken to Westmorland General Hospital with minor injuries.

There were no further injuries.

Cumbria Police closed the road for 6 hours while officers carried out enquiries.

Police are asking for any witnesses who have not already come forward to call on 101 and ask to speak to a member of the South Mobile Support Group.
