IT passes in a flash - but time has a habit of changing life, and the things which surround us, sometimes unrecognisably.
We today take a journey back in time through the Evening Mail's picture archives to look at places and people of years gone by.
In some cases, the difference compared to what we see now is remarkable; in others just subtle changes are evident.
From the promenade at Grange, to Market Street in Ulverston, our journey takes in many decades.
Perhaps most noticeable are the vehicles which feature in some of our shots, now relics of a long-gone era.
Fashion and the changes the years have wrought also feature.
But some things remain the same. Community spirit is evident in life captured through the lens of our photographers, while community and agricultural events played a huge part in life.
