SOUTH Lakes MP Tim Farron has vowed to continue to fight against the government’s plans for massive school cuts - after a survey organised by him revealed a worrying picture, including teacher losses.
The Westmorland and Lonsdale MP has written to all headeachers in his constituency, and is in the process of speaking with all of them. While the information revealed is confidential, Mr Farron says the early responses confirm a worrying picture.
A survey in The Times last month revealed that almost two thirds of schools are planning to get rid of at least one teacher in the next three months. Mr Farron says this figure appears to be borne out locally, with more posts to be cut in the future unless the government changes course. Schools across Cumbria face £28m of cuts.
