ONE of the Lake District's favourite art events returns this bank holiday weekend.

Eskdale Art Show will be held at St Bega’s School in Eskdale, showcasing the best from a host of local names.

This week, the school furniture will be moved out and classrooms will become art galleries with 8x4 boards and lights mounted on the wall to showcase some of the finest art in Cumbria.

This will be the 23rd Annual Art Show, and there will be a range of different mediums on display, including jewellery, woodwork, pottery, scarves and bags.

The school children will also have their own stall turning their work into an enterprise.

Madonna Adams, the schools chair of governors, said: "This afternoon the children are in art club creating and designing items to go on sale this weekend.

"The money raised goes towards the children and the school. It funds trips like Theatre by the Lake, Shakespeare for Kids and also keeping equipment up to date such as computers and outdoor play equipment to suit all Cumbrian weathers!"

There will also be entertainment from Egremont's Junior Brass Band at the bandstand in the school's garden on the Saturday.

Madonna added: "We have around 50 volunteers to help out. This is our 23rd show and we still have the mothers who set up the event 23 years ago coming back to help out.

"There's a lady on the door whose children are almost 40, but she still comes back every year to help out on the door and sell raffle tickets."

The show is a family-orientated event which can be fun for all the family.

The beautiful gardens will also be open on Sunday and Monday to allow walkers to explore Eskdale's beautiful surroundings whilst also looking at the art on offer.

There will be free admission and parking.

The exhibition will take place at St Bega’s School, in Eskdale, from 10am to 4.30pm, from Saturday May 28 to Monday 30.
