MIDLANDS folk act Red Shoes bring their new album tour to South Cumbria next week.

They return to play for Ulverston Live Music, having last appeared in the town two years ago.

The gig at Ulverston Sports and Social Club, in Priory Road, on Friday October 6 will be based around material from their brand-new double album, It Isn't Over Yet, which was released at the start of September.

Having originally started out in the early 1980s, the band returned to prominence in 2009 when contact with Fairport Convention's Dave Pegg led to studio time and a reformation of Red Shoes.

Carolyn Evan’s passion for folk music, driven by her love of Sandy Denny and Fairport Convention songs, combined with husband Mark’s liking for American music played by such artists as Bob Dylan and John Fogerty, create a unique sound.

Pegg sat in the producer's chair for that initial recording eight years ago, culminating in the release of the critically-acclaimed Ring Around the Land in 2009, and has guested on a number of tracks.

The likes of Chris Leslie, PJ Wright, Ric Sanders and Joe Brown have also joined them in the studio.

With the release of their second album All The Good Friends, Red Shoes continued to create emotionally charged music combined with thought-provoking lyrics, bringing them new fans and gaining them more critical acclaim.

It Isn't Over Yet sees Red Shoes capture the full spectrum of their work, from pared-back, intimate, acoustic performances on one disc to the full-blown folk rock experience on the other.

It’s a fine encapsulation of the two facets of their work: one, the engaging folk duo; the other, a couple of singers and musicians who are able to call on major folk world talent when a five or six-piece band is required.

All of these brand new songs are in the duo’s current live set.

Doors for the show on Friday October 6 open at 7.45pm, and tickets are available on the night, or can be booked in advance by phoning 07749 827488.
