A group of vintage Lake District paintings has been sold by auction in West Cumbria with the highest price exceeding £900.
The sale by Mitchells of Cockermouth included four pictures showing country scenes of the Windermere and Coniston district.
The most keenly sought in the two-day sale was watercolour by Edward Horace Thompson of Yewdale, Coniston (LOT 947) which sold for £920 against a pre-sale estimate of £400 to £600.
The artist lived from 1879 to 1949.
One of his signed watercolours, with the title Sunset over Windermere, made £780. (LOT 954)
There was a top bid of £420 for another work by Thompson with the title A Mountain Torrent, Tilburthwaite, Near Coniston. (LOT 975).
A watercolour called Windermere, which was dated 1876, sold for £320. (LOT 968).
It was the work of Ebenezer Albert Warrington, who lived from 1830 to 1903.
