ALTERNATIVE rock outfit Sad-Eyed Puffins are joined by two top acoustic acts for their latest appearance at the Black Dog on Saturday.

The psychedelic collective head to the pub between Dalton and Ireleth off the back of a number of well-received appearances there in recent months, and following a headline slot at last year's Dog fest.

Usually a five-piece, the band mix an array of influences to create a sound that straddles alternative rock and experimental pop, and makes use of unique three-part vocal harmonies.

Made up from some of the area’s better-known solo performers, the line-up includes former members of folk act Muscovados, and award-winning vocalist Rita Baugh.

Formed just over two years ago, the Puffins have been a big draw across the county with numerous festival appearances and headline shows aplenty. Their trademark feathered headgear encapsulates the unconventional nature of their live shows.

This weekend they are joined by The Coulton Brothers, who have also been Black Dog regulars this year. The former Atlas pair will be performing some as-yet-unreleased material from their upcoming EP, as well as a handful of covers from the likes of REM and Leonard Cohen.

Solo singer-songwriter Collie Stewart, who has appeared on percussion for the Puffins in recent weeks, will be playing a selection of acoustic covers and originals to complete the line-up.

The free show gets under way around 9pm.
