For the last 20 years, Kimberly-Clark’s Barrow Mill has been taking on apprentices as it looks to create a strong, skilled workforce to take the company into the future.
The internationally renowned Kimberly Clark (the company behind household brands including Andrex and Kleenex) has been in Barrow for more than 40 years and has developed a reputation as a highly desirable company to work for, thanks to their great relationship with employees and the career progression on offer.
Whilst many employers across the country are complaining of a growing skills gap in STEM fields, Kimberly Clark are offering a lucky few the opportunity to help fill that void and enter a sought after position in engineering through apprenticeships in mechanical or electrical engineering.
The skills gap has been highlighted by the government as a growing concern, especially in science, technology, engineering and mathematics, making individuals trained in these fields highly desirable to employers who often offer impressive wages as incentives.
“We take on between 4 and 6 apprentices in an Advanced Level apprenticeship each year in mechanical and electrical apprenticeships, many of whom develop their career in KC taking on technician roles and engineer roles as their knowledge, skills and experience progress.”
While earning an apprentice’s wage, apprentices will develop skills which are highly desired by the industry. An impressive total of 97 per cent of the apprentices will also go on to take up a full-time role with the company.
“We are not just giving them a job or training, we are looking to train them for a career.”
-Bob McClean Kimberly-Clark's Apprentice Training Co-ordinator
Apprenticeships can also lead to further education opportunities and eventually a degree. Young people today have far more choices for their education and an apprenticeship is just another career pathway to university level study.Sponsored apprenticeships in mechanical, electrical or process engineering starting in September 2017 are available for application now at Kimberly Clark, Barrow Mill, Barrow in Furness.
All apprenticeships have a 4 year duration and you will achieve an NVQ Level 3, technical certificate and job-related qualifications
