AS VARIOUS sports and active pastimes find themselves unable to continue due to lockdown, The Mail is revisiting the areas bowling successes. The Furness area’s bowling community has seen a collection of memorable events. In 2015, the Furness Ladies division 1 bowls competition took place in April. Ulverston crown green bowlers also took part on the day. The bowlers had to endure the cold weather at the start of the season but pushed through the difficulties to put on an impressive season. In July of that year, the National Crown Bowls Federation junior league competition was held at Roose Conservatives Club. Representing the county were the Furness Junior team, made up of Charlie O’Hare, Adam Smith, Grace Milner, Kaitlin Last, Jack Brannon, Jack Last, Jayden Reilly and Josh Smith. The youngsters performed well for their club. In 2016, the West Lancs Masonic Bowling Competition was held at Roose Conservatives Club. With the assistance of Furness and South Lakeland Masonic Lodges, and players, the event raised £3,800 which was distributed to charities.
