EAGER Youngsters at a South Cumbrian nursery got all dressed up to find out what life was like in the classroom and the playground when Queen Victoria was on the throne.
The Mail, on Thursday, March 14 in 2002, noted: "Classrooms from the 1960s were transported back in time to help a pre-school nursery class experience a Victorian day.
"The children and staff of Croftlands Pre-School Nursery, Ulverston, dressed up in Victorian costume and the classroom was set out as it would have been up to 120 years ago at the height of the Victorian age.
"The healthy, well-nourished appearance of youngsters and teachers would have given the game away but the hoops the children played with at their playtime faithfully re-enacted an 1880s playground scene.
"Afterwards the children helped prepare a Victorian tea for their invited guests as a Mother's Day celebration.
"They also plan to visit the Dock Museum, Barrow, as part of a past and present theme for studies."
