A PARADE in vintage costumes around the streets of Barrow Island in 1992 helped give a Victorian theme to an annual fair for St John's Church.
Among the 50 walkers was Barrow's mayor Joyce Fleet and mayoress Phyll Palmer, young cast members from the production of Oliver! by Walney Amateurs and Barrow Sea Cadets.
The Mail, on November 16, noted: "The fair included Victorian games, such as swingboats, wooden tops and whips made by Parkview School and Furness College."
Cllr Fleet said: "Everyone is very impressed with the way people have dressed up. They have really made an effort."
It was hoped that the event, organised by vicar's wife Jean Boyd, would make £1,000 towards the work of the church.
